Teaching pupils curriculum subjects through growing healthy food

 

This presentation will present practical examples from the Learn4health ‘’soil’n gardening’’ program’s teachers manual. These examples focus on curriculum subjects, the scientific work method, growing healthy vegetables and sprouts and creating a link between the classroom and the individual school’s natural surroundings

 

Biography

Vibeke Prip Larsen, Denmark studied teaching at Aalborg University College and graduated in 2005. She teaches Danish, Biology, Nature and Science. Later she did two extra degrees as a reading supervisor for pupils and teachers and as a science supervisor for pupils and teachers.

Vibeke works at Arden School in Jutland, Denmark. Arden School is a public school with 550 pupils age 6 to 16. The pupils graduate before leaving the school. Vibeke is a teacher and supervisor at Arden School and also a coordinator for all science teachers in the municipality of Mariager Fjord. 

Vibeke teaches the oldest pupils and guides the leaders, teachers and pupils in connection with different projects in context with reading and science teaching. She is a part of Eramus+ project Learn4health where she has developed a curriculum teacher guide for soil and garden and in cooperation with Aalborg University they have developed the Sprout Wagon, which is a material for teaching pupils how to grow sprouts focusing on growth conditions and photosynthesis.
