This presentation will provide an overview of the European core competences of skills and knowledge around food and diet and how this has been used to develop a cooking skills resource in a London borough in the UK.  It will also look at the concept of teaching pupils to experience food using all their senses with the idea of changing attitudes and behaviour to food. 

 

Biography

Marjon Willers studied Human Nutrition and Dietetics at London Metropolitan and did a Masters in Food policy at City University. She has been working in Islington since 2005 as a specialist dietitian for schools and early years. Marjon is a co-director of the Health Education Trust which developed the concept of developing food policy through consultation and engagement (School Nutrition Action Group). She lectures as part of nutrition and dietetics under-graduate and post-graduate degrees at Kings University College and London Metropolitan University. Marjon is a trustee of the First Steps Nutrition Trust, which campaigns for better information and support for good nutrition and good food, from pre-conception to five years.
